As you may or may not have noticed, I’ve started using Wordpress. I’ve spent this weekend converting my previous database over, and it seems to have worked relatively well. My main reason for doing this is to allow me to concentrate on some more fun projects. While writing my own blogging platform was fun and a good learning experience, I want to spend time doing other things that haven’t been done before. So that’s where we begin…

This week was a good demonstration of the two extremes the government can swing between in this country. First off we had the passing of the bill to ban smoking in all enclosed areas, including pubs and clubs. Excellent, I cannot wait for that to come into force in 2007. It has been pointed out to me by a couple of people, including Kate that this could cause more people to smoke in their homes, and possibly hurt their children. I personally can’t think someone’s train of thought going “Right, so I can’t smoke in the pub anymore, I will smoke in my home! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Blair!”. Those who already smoke in their home will continue to do so, those that don’t will probably continue not to do so.
On the other hand we have the repealing of the changes the Lords made to ID cards bill to completely remove the point of it. It is truely bizarre when the unelected house of parliament seems to be the one with all the sense. ID cards will not stop terrorism as we are told it will be, it will not be voluntary as we have been told as you need one to get a passport and most of all, the cost for one will be nearly £100. That’s if they keep their promises. Let’s just hope they lose before they get that one through properly. After all, it took 8 years to pass the fox hunting bill when the Lords disagreed, so let us hope…

Moving into a place of our own means that we need various white goods to populate our kitchen. Unfortunately, the computer geek side of me has got involved and decided what I really want is a Dyson CR01 Washing Machine, just because I could wash a whole king size duvet in it. I don’t even have a king size bed. It gets worse though.
I then decided that the really sensible thing would of course be having a washing machine that I could check the status of on my computer. I mean that’s obvious right? Perfectly sensible. Unfortunately, this led to the discovery of LG Internet Family. I could have a washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer that I can talk to online. The fridge could do e-mail and internet, TV, etc, etc, and ice. This is obviously all of the white goods I needs. But the fridge is £5000, so my dreams are shattered already. I might have to console myself with merely the microwave, safe in the knowledge that I could put some food in it in the morning, set it cooking when I leave work and arrive home to a house on fire hot dinner.

So, ok, I’ve been a bit slow having owned this domain name for 6 months and only now bothering to put something up here. In fact it’s taken me so long someone else thought it would be funny to put one up here for me. Well done guys, I have your numbers. So the idea with this is that I’ll post what’s going on in my life fairly regularly here, and maybe occasionally have a nice rant, possibly starting with “Why The Hell?” which would make it fit the domain of this site. Plus I thought I’d have another stab at improving my web design by making some pages that validate to W3C standards, and make full use of CSS for once. Come back soon.
