Technological Woes

So I’m a bit stuck with SQL Server right now. I’m more used to MySQL, but for our main database in work we’ve got with the Microsoft solution. Can’t say that would have been my choice, but hey, what input do I have? Anyway. I’ve got table with 3 million records and large queries on such a thing are proving to be… slow. I think it’s down to the hardware, but I can’t figure out a quick way to make a rough guess at the rows returned. Damn.

In other news, I stumbled across “Bastardo” by Charlotte Hatherley (her what is in Ash) on the MTV2/NME chart program yesterday and it’s a nice tune. The video was rather surprising too, starring David Walliams in the title role, with cameos from Simon Pegg, Lucy Davies and others. Surprising and listenable. Must investigate more!

well hello alex long time no comment. i use mssql server too, imho postgresql is the way to go :D – you wanna look up stored procedures if you want your query times to get quicker, that and optimise your existing queries. benchmark them with some timer code.

Good advice there Jon, will try it :) We’re stuck with MS SQL for now, I don’t get input on what database platform we should use. Damn the world.
