I’ve been listening to the new Linkin Park album that I am currently borrowing off James. I intially thought it wasn’t that good – far too similar to Hybrid Theory. I mean, I don’t like it when bands I like go off in strange directions and make crap music, but it seemed rediculous. But on further listenings, it really is growing on me. It’s much more tuneful than Hybrid Theory was, maybe more grown up or something? I recommend it to you, dear readers. (yes, you, and the other one. And my Mum. Hi Mum!) However, while listening to it, I was thinking the end of Track 12, Session was very similar to that bit in the Matrix where the silver goo goes down Neo’s throat as they are trying to track him down, and made a little bet with myself that it would be on the Reloaded soundtrack. Now that the track listing is released, what do I find? That very track is indeed on there.

Well, I’m now back in University on the home straight of being a student – less than 8 weeks remain of the year, and exams should be over in 6 weeks. It’s quite a scary thought as I can remember being 4 years old in school, being told I would be in education until 2000, 14 years later, and here we are in 2003, and I’m now nearly done. Scary eh? Still, it seems fair enough that I should have to put in some hard graft now to set myself up well for the next bit of my life. The really daft thing is that I’ve got my whole week planned, but when I actually went to a lecture today, it was cancelled, and then I checked for tomorrow, and that’s cancelled too! Damn! Still tomorrow is another day, and more work is planned. Hopefully I can get a few hundred words written of some coursework, and another few hundred written of my dissertation, along with some code for C++ coursework, so that I can hopefully get most of my work out of the way to get a decent level of revision done. I’m certainly not licked yet by any means. I will succeed.

So, I went karting yesterday with Mum’s work do – 24 people, Grand Prix format, which mean 4 heats of 5 laps, semi final of 6 laps and a final of 12 laps. I won all but one of my heats (when I started 5th on the grid), all from none front positions – 4th, 5th, 4th, 3rd. Not the most spread out positions! Also on pole for my semi final as the highest points scorer, and won that by a mile, and then on pole for the final as I set fastest lap and scored the most points, and then also won that by a mile, setting a lap 0.8s quicker than anyone in the process, so that was good fun. The prizes were ace – bottle of vodka, large Easter egg and… A remote control go kart! Fantastic! I’ll be playing with this for ages, hehe. Also, I’ve added a bit on my cars. It’s a work in progress at the moment, and I’ll add a bit more info about the 306 when I get some free time. Which may not be for a while now.

I’ve spent most of this afternoon wrangling with my dissertation, and Java being Java isn’t tabbing between my JTextField’s in the order I want it to. Now I remember fiddling with the order before, but can’t remember how, and all I can seem to find is that it got rewritten for Java 1.4, and now I have no idea at all how it works! Aargh!

While war is a terrible thing, it does create some heroes. Currently one such person is Iraq’s Information Minister. The guy is clearly bonkers, but he makes great viewing – such as saying that the coalition wasn’t in Baghdad, while US tanks drive around behind him. Brilliant! I think they guy is just having a laugh to be honest, I’m sure I saw him give a little snigger today while giving another statement. So in the style of the Bud ads – Mr Iraqi-Information-Minister, we salute you, and this Bud is for you.

I’ve been away visiting some of Fran’s relations all weekend up in Cheshire, and took some time out to visit some of mine too. On my way back from dropping Fran off in Oxford I popped in to see Chris. Met his brother Andy in Weatherspoons, and had a good time. We spent some of the time talking about jobs, which is a bit of a problem for me – I can’t seem to find one. I can walk into a job at allpay.net, but I’d rather go a bit further afield to start with, but the problem is that the job market for Computer Science graduates sucks at the moment. I knew this would happen before I started my degree, when there were jobs aplenty out there, but it all seems to have gone titsup.com over the last couple of years. Arse. Still, I’ve applied for the few I can find that are actually outside of that horrible place called London and that are relatively near to Oxford and the lovely Fran, but do I hold out much hope? Not really, after Oxford and RM have turned me down in the last year, which I find peculiar as I know I could have done well at both? Can recruitment people not see the perfect guy for the job or something? Actually, they’ve probably got Management Degrees or some such, which would explain their problems.
